I wonder what's going on?

Steve phoned earlier to say he'd moved into his new room. So he should be happy - yet he sounded really down. Refused to say why though.

Then he was saying something and I had to ask him to repeat it a few times, because (due to the speakerphone thing) I could only here the wind. He got really angry and shouted at me was I deaf? So I said there was no need to get shirty, and he said, 'well, I'd better let you get back to what you were doing, I'll call you later' in a really nasty way. I just said, 'ok then, bye.'

A few minutes later he phoned back to apologise. Good move on his part because I'd been feeling quite annoyed, although I'd forgotten about it cos Dad was getting me to do his bills. So instead I then felt quite warm towards him. He said he was just feeling a bit down, but didn't know why. I don't necessarily believe he doesn't know why.

So - why?

Because he is getting restless without understanding why. Because deep down he is scared of any kind of 'settling down', even in a hotel room. Long-term intimacy frightens him. He is a little boy. But you already know that.

  Hmmm, not sure that I do! Alittle boy I agree, but still a little boy because he was never properly parented. From the first he was always wanting more from me and has always been very possessive and demanding. Things went wrong after his mum's death last year for a while because he was doing all sorts of drugs, and then this year when he went to work away and was stressed at us being apart and bored too, so did heroin.
  
  I don't think it's to do with me - I think he took it out on me because he was upset about something else. Shit, hope it's not a drug thing again... He really seemed clean last weekend

    I'm sure you'll keep an eye on things. I hazarded a theory which was meant to be a general, overall perception, but obviously you know him and yourself. However, remember that damaged little boys (or little girls, for that matter, I speak from experience) cannot cope with long-term commitment because they have no past experience to relate it to. It's unchartered territory for them.
    
    As ever, do tell me if/when you want to me stop with my cheap psychology; I'd hate you to think that I pontificate without knowing anything.

      OMG, please don't think that! I really value what you and everyone else has to say, I know that when you are too close to a situation you don't always read it right.
      
      I've written more about what you've said there in another post, because it got a bit unweildy as a reply! But yes, the more advice and comments the better - even though I'm very bad at taking advice even when I know it is probably the right thing to do!
