Steve phoned about 9.45 and I've just got off the phone. He was at the Coniston webcam for a while, the rest of the time he was on a bench somehwere talking about all sorts of stuff, and basically he's a mess. Which I knew. He doesn't seem to understand that things don't just happen to a person - they have ultimate control over their lives.

We were talking about families, council tax, police, all sorts of crap, don't know how we spent so long on the phone really, but sometimes we do. He's not sounding like he's had any H since yesterday, he was quite insightful and sensible really, for him. I noticed through the call he has two distinct styles of relating to me: there's the obviously 'girlfriend' stuff, and then there's the counselling and advising stuff - and it is as if he is talking to an older sister or (less charitably) his mum. Then something will crop up and I'm back to his 'girlfriend' again. Because he's still not properly said I'm his girlfriend, and just treating me as though I am isn't enough.

Earlier today I was watching Eastenders and my son said about Sean Slater, 'he's like Steve, isn't he?' More right than you know Little One, I thought.
